We were honored to participate in Laura Ihanamäki's thesis, which focused on the MARKED program. The research topic was: Can School Bullying Be Prevented Through Socio-Emotional Skills and Technology?"
The findings suggest, based on theory, that the skills and lessons taught through the MARKED program holistically strengthen young people's social-emotional competence, thereby positively impacting their resilience levels. High resilience was identified as a protective factor for youth in various ways, which highlights the MARKED program as an effective tool for reducing school bullying from multiple perspectives.Furthermore, based on an interview with the program initiator (Nevalainen 2024), the MARKED program’s impact on reducing bullying was viewed highly.
At the program's core is the enhancement of psychological safety within classrooms through various group and individual exercises. During the program, participants explore emotions and interpersonal skills, both of which are critical in bullying prevention. This is essential, as bullying is often a symptom of psychological insecurity and a need to establish one’s position within the social hierarchy."
