Psychological Capital in Strengthening Learning and Well-being in Subject Teaching
We are pleased to announce that in collaboration with the Finnish National Agency for Education (OPH), we are launching a free training program focused on strengthening Psychological Capital and well-being as a part of subject teaching. Teachers in lower secondary schools have expressed a need for additional training in motivating students, addressing diverse learners, and improving teaching practices. School principals have also highlighted the importance of these themes in their feedback, emphasizing the need for further professional development at the lower secondary level. Additionally, subject teachers have reported that they seek support in enhancing students' school engagement, promoting social-emotional skills, and providing concrete ways to help (Karvi, 2022-2024).
WHAT DOES OUR 3-DAY FREE TRAINING OFFER?
We aim to support subject teachers in identifying learning barriers and fostering students' intrinsic motivation. Students' emotions, thoughts, and self-perceptions as learners can limit their future educational opportunities. This training is grounded in research on the impact of Psychological Capital (hope, resilience, self-confidence, and optimism) on learning. Through subject expertise and passion, teachers play a key role in strengthening students' self-confidence and fostering a positive self-image that supports lifelong learning.
In this training educators will:
- 🌱 gain tools to help students regulate their emotions, develop self-awareness, and build confidence in their ability to learn, even when facing challenges.
- 🌱 enhance their own professional self-awareness and well-being by learning flexible mental skills.
- 🌱 hear from two expert speakers who will share stories that demonstrate the incredible value of a lower secondary school professional's support in shaping students' positive beliefs about learning.
DURATION AND FORMAT
The training is 2+1 days long and includes a practical pedagogical assignment tailored to your subject teaching. There will be two training sessions next spring: one in-person and one online. Subject teachers from Finland are welcome to apply for the training. You can do it here: https://forms.gle/ShbWW5un6NUSf2zH8
Come share and gather effective pedagogical strategies to enrich your daily work. Through our training, we aim to bring joy and strength to the teaching profession!
